ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Overview

Cactipedia is a blog about famous and low-maintenance cacti and Succulents spices. It was an individual project and I designed and developed it. I used the programming languages PHP and Javascript on WordPress to create a dynamic interactive website and HTML, and CSS, to create a stylish layout.

UX DESIGN

User Flow

The flow starts from the Home page where the users can see information about the most popular and low-maintenance cacti and Succulents. Then users can click on each one to redirect to the article pages. Also, they can use the search feature to find a specific article. On the archive page, images and excerpts of every single article are displayed.

Wireframes

By creating the wireframe, I outlined the structure of the website. In this phase, I tested what works and what needs improvement before adding technical details.

UI DESIGN

Branding

I used light and very light neutral green as primary and secondary colors and a combination of dark green and pink as gradients for the background of hero images. I chose this color combination as it is the color of many succulent species such as Hen and Chicks.

To design the logo, I was inspired by the most famous succulent, Aloe vera. This plant is recognized for its green juicy leaves.

For typography, I selected Gelasio which is an elegant serif and fancy typeface. The distinctive curves of this typeface inspire the Aloe vera leaves. Source Sans typeface is the best font for paragraphs to make them readable on smaller devices.

Responsive Design

Responding to the user according to the device, screen size, and orientation, I designed and developed a responsive platform.
